This work shows that buried semiconductor interfaces and electrolyte chemistry can work together to control defect-mediated charge recombination, rather than leaving defects as fixed sources of energy loss. This concept of “interface–electrolyte gating” provides a new strategy for regulating charge-carrier dynamics and designing more efficient photoelectrodes for solar-driven energy conversion.
